It’s time to say goodbye to 2016 and welcome a new year of marketing and the trends that 2017 comes along with.
Video will increase
In 2016, video proved to be a popular form of digital marketing with companies both large and small dipping their feet into video marketing. It seems that 2017 is likely to hold the same candle, as video is getting more and more popular and proving to be a success for businesses. Not only this, it no longer has to be a large expense to produce videos. In fact, here at Angle Studios, we have begun producing our own videos to promote our upcoming services, so we could assist you too. Statistics show that 59% of executives would rather watch a video than read text. So if video isn’t featured in your digital marketing, it should be something to consider!
Facebook will become more relevant for business!
Facebook ads currently surpass Google ads in value thanks to Facebook’s ad targeting features that allow users to target specific audiences. Adwords simply cannot match this. With over 1.8 billion users per month and the success of these Facebook ads, more and more businesses will lean towards using Facebook ads for themselves. Because of this, Facebook will continue to expand their shop section to enable brands to list their products on their Facebook page, showing purchases directly within their platform.
Will twitter become less relevant?
As of late, Twitter feels less like a social media platform and more like a news source to its many users. Although this is not a bad thing for Twitter, it does mean that it’s changing significantly and is becoming the go-to place for breaking news. Twitter even announced, “Twitter is no longer a social network – Twitter is a news product.” This may mean less emphasis on marketing features, leading to reduced opportunities to use Twitter for lead generation.
More than 50% of searches on Google are from mobile devices. This means that the mobile is now the leading source for exploring Google, and with Google being the most popular internet browser in the world, you should assure all of your marketing efforts are responsive or mobile friendly to reach the broader audience. Not only this, but Google now penalises those sites that aren’t responsive or mobile friendly by having them appear on later pages of Google. Appearing on these later pages will make your site less accessible on Google, meaning fewer interactions to your site and for your business. Therefore, assuring your marketing efforts are mobile friendly is essential.
Long form content
Content marketing will be ever present in 2017 but that’s not to say it won’t be changing. Short 350-word blogs can no longer cut it, as blogs under 500 words aren’t SEO friendly. Short form blogs don’t prove to be as effective as longer content either, having less information for the reader to digest making it not worth reading. An in-depth and educational look at a subject matter is what people want and will help you build trust with your audience.
VR is a huge trend at the moment so it’s only natural that businesses want to capitalise on this and use VR to promote their company. Although it’s highly unlikely you’ll be using virtual reality to promote your business this year, there are some of the larger brands jumping on the VR train and using it as a marketing tool. Companies like Coca-Cola, McDonalds, Volvo and New York Times to name just a few have capitalised on VR with success. Virtual reality is immersive, impactful and most of all, memorable for the consumer, hence why these large organisations are using it in their marketing efforts. In the future, smaller businesses may be able to use VR as well.
As smart watches are on the rise, with both android and apple launching their products to market, the rise of apps for these devices is inevitable. Like VR, smart watches are a trend that not everyone has experienced yet but is quickly growing and is definitely the technology of the close future. Companies such as Instagram, Just Eat, Shazam, BMW and more have tailored their services for smart watches. This seems to be another product that every business would have some activity on in the future as a way to market their products or services.
You may not be using watch apps to promote your business this year, but if you have a smart watch, expect to see your favourite brand promotions on there soon.
In conclusion, there will be both big changes and some minor tweaks coming to digital marketing in 2017 but nothing you can’t stay on top of. For any help with your digital marketing please do not hesitate to contact Angle Studios and we can discuss how we can assist you. Good luck and have a great 2017!
