The Challenge:

B&M approached Angle to build their new website and evolve their brand. Modernising without losing impact and familiarity.

Our Approach:

We recognise the importance of keeping a familiar theme. To ensure we didn't lose the sense of familiarity with their existing customers, we worked with B&M on establishing a brand that demonstrated an evolution rather than a revolution. We began by working with similar colours and fonts and applied modern design techniques in order to create a new, striking brand. This new brand has since been rolled out across B&M’s new responsive website, wall graphics and stationery.

As with all our projects, we start by learning about our clients and what they do.

In B&M’s case, competitive research gave us a clearer understanding of the market. We were able to use this information to better understand the target audience and what their expectations were.

This research demonstrated that we needed to ensure the brand and website design were simple and user-friendly. We needed to create a brand that stood out from the crowd, yet worked in a familiar way. 

Research helps us to scope designs, build functionality in that will not baffle or confuse. We look into the target audience, a good user experience when browsing a website and make sure what we are proposing represents the client to the best possible way.

Following our research, we worked with B&M to create initial brand concepts and website wireframes; demonstrating what a fresh, new approach could do to their brand.

As requested, we worked hard to remain loyal to the existing B&M brand. We produced a logo that wasn't too far removed from what they had before, retaining their renowned colour and shape, evolving the font into the more modern DIN font, playing with sizing and kerning to produce the logo you'll see today on their website and media!

While it might appear to be a small change, it has made a big difference to B&M. Our research and early conceptual work helped discount a lot of initial ideas and dramatic changes. What we ended up with was a B&M brand that remained true to original, yet gave them something new, fresh and simple they are excited to share with others.

Pleased with the design stage, B&M agreed to moved forward and we began work on their new responsive website.

As soon as our developers got their hands on the web files, they began to work their magic and turn what was once a flat website into a technically challenging, fully responsive, interactive wonder! Combining CSS3 and JQuery techniques, the team were able to get the site to work smoothly and swiftly across all major browsers and mobile devices.

Finally, the ExpressionEngine CMS system was bolted on, and with a few customised features, we developed the perfect content management environment. Perfect for B&M.
